Netflix and the beginning of binge-watching TV
When I first heard about Netflix producing their own content I was skeptical. Then I heard about the show and watched the previews and the first episode of “House of Cards” and I was hooked. I am a big fan of political shows, but this one was so raw and real. I also read about how Netflix decided to release all 13 episodes at once and I thought that was a brillant and gutsy move. I also realized that this is the official start of binge-watching television.
Binge TV usually starts around holidays when networks play all episodes of a show and you are snowed-in or have nothing else to do. It’s a good way to be introduced to series and other shows that you may never watch. I started watching a show called Mystery Diners on Food Network thanks to a marathon, now it has a consistent spot on my DVR.
Television’s future hangs in the balance, there are more people watching shows at non-traditional times than ever before. I don’t think online viewing will replace traditional television viewing at stated times due to a social interaction, but I do see binge television watching to be the new thing.
