Avid to After Effects

In the world of video editing you almost always have to use another program to get your video project done.  The company Automatic Duck now has free plugins (formerly over $400) for you to send your projects from Avid, Final Cut to After Effects. Here is a tutorial I created for Web Video Chefs about the process.

Teaching my students how to create kinetic text

I am teaching a Unit on Adobe After Effects CS 5 one of the most powerful pieces of software for motion graphics. This week we are doing a project on kinetic typography.  The students could choose any song to animate (with my stipulations of course). Here are some early versions of their project. I will post all of my students projects once they are finished. Some of these are really creative, especially for 10th grade students who have never touched After Effects or any other motion grahics program.

How to export an alpha channel in After Effects

I am by no means an After Effects guru, but I know how to create titles and to get things out of the program, and I feel that is the least you need to know. I am realizing with teaching software you will never know EVERY piece well, but you need to know how to get things in and how to adjust/edit things that other motion/graphic designers give you so you won't be stuck, and being stuck on a deadline is not a good feeling. Visit my site Web Video Chefs for more video tutorials.
