Why I called 3 parents on the first week of school

Yes, it happened and the video below explains why. In year two of my teaching journey, I am wiser, but I still have a lot to learn.

Loved this story. I am not a mean teacher either—but, I also called 3 parents this past week. Have to let the students know you are serious. Have a great year. Hope to see you sometime this year. Love your blog!

Thanks, and I know how it can be. It’s rough, but it’s rewarding.

You’re doing a great job as a teacher. It’s unfortunate that years later they may think back and wish they would have listened more closely to what you had to say. Real life skills are hard to come by for some. Recently, I found myself pondering what could be done to help teenage boys realize their actions matter and can have life-altering implications. I am an aunt to 10 young men and some (all) of them are really struggling to make the right decisions. I wish that prayer, love, hope, and caring relatives was all that was needed to make a difference, but it isn’t. How do you teach productivity and diligence and ambition to young men that just want it to “happen” one day out of the clear blue? Big breaks are not the norm, and independence should be sought after.
